Throughout her career, Andrea Kayne has grappled with a critical question: How can we, as women, realize our own internal power both personally and professionally, no matter the constraints in the external world?
Andrea has pursued this and other questions as Director of the Leadership Program at DePaul University College of Education where she has taught for the last twenty years. Andrea has taught, written, spoken, and consulted worldwide on topics of empowered leadership, feminist leadership, emotionally intelligent leadership, constructive culture and conflict resolution, data-informed professional learning communities, and the area she has developed — Internally Referenced Leadership™. She presents this transformative work at conferences and workshops throughout the country and internationally.
Andrea’s most recent book, Kicking Ass in a Corset: Jane Austen’s 6 Principles for Living and Leading from the Inside Out™ (University of Iowa Press) is for anyone who wants to tap into their internal power; there is no need to have knowledge or be a fan of Jane Austen. Utilizing Austen as an archetypal springboard, practical exercises, real-life case studies, and scholarship, Kicking Ass in a Corset™ is a roadmap that teaches women of any age or profession how to tune out the external noise and listen to themselves.
Andrea works with organizations including Slack, Expedia, At the Well, Campowerment, ALTAR, HealthScape, DePaul Women’s Network, and SheLeadsTech. Offerings include Internally Referenced Leadership coaching programs, empowerment courses, and an Internally Referenced Enneagram Coaching Certificate in partnership with the DePaul University Office of Innovative Professional Learning.
Andrea just joined the ranks of incredible thought leaders at the helm of Campowerment – a transformational women’s community powered by playtime.
While knowing Austen’s work is not necessary to enjoy and get the most from Kicking Ass in a Corset™, Andrea, admittedly is a Janeite who is a bit, shall we say, obsessed. She is an active lifelong member of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA). She has spoken widely at JASNA events and is Assistant Regional Coordinator of the Greater Chicago Region of JASNA.
Andrea grew up in California and then received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Vassar College, her Masters of Education degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
She lives in Oak Park, Illinois with her husband and their beautiful blended family and, of course, her Pride and Prejudoodle, Addy.
